A new Google app that allows you to text your friends? Wait, is this replacing Hangouts? Wait, why? Yes, no, and because, to answer those queries, respectively. Google Messenger is now out on the Play Store, having been officially confirmed to exist by Google last month.
This new app is the stock SMS/MMS handler in Android 5.0, but also can be downloaded to other devices with SMS/MMS capabilities, provided they run Android 4.1 or higher.
The Google Search app is about to get the Material Design treatment. In a blog post today, Google has officially announced version 4.0 of Search, which we detailed (APK download included) nearly a month ago.
To refresh, the visual changes aren't all that drastic. Google Now already relied on cards, and swiping them away already felt pretty tangible. But now we have the extra layer of Lollipop-style flourish. There's a new sidebar, back arrow, and bolder colors.
Google has given a bunch of its apps the Material Design treatment. Thus far, YouTube isn't one of them, even if you're running Android 5.0. But a few users have noticed a UI change that nudges things in that direction. They've fired up the app and slid out the sidebar, only to see that it's now white. With their avatar in the top left atop a colorful background, YouTube is starting to look ever-so-slightly more like what Lollipop users would expect.
ith the release of version 6.2, Titanium Backup should now play along nicely with Android 5.0. This means rooted users who have already jumped to Lollipop can continue to use the tool to back up, restore, or freeze whichever apps they wish.

Snapchat has a had a rough few weeks in terms of security. People's photos were allegedly stolen and posted online recently through the use of a third-party apps. Those apps used reversed-engineered APIs to access the service, which creates a significant vulnerability in account security.
In the US, you can pre-order an unlocked Nexus 6 from the Google Play Store for $649 (32GB) and $699 (64GB). Carriers that will stock the device include T-Mobile, AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and US Cellular, and it will hit store shelves in November. Over the next coming weeks, the handset will be sold in 28 other countries, with 4G LTE variants both for the Americas and countries on other continents. In the UK, it will cost £499 (32GB) and £549 (64GB). The 32GB model will cost AU$869 in Australia and the 64GB model is AU$929.
